First off, WE HAD THAT YUMMY FRENCH TOAST FOR BREAKFAST AGAIN. Highlight of the entire day right there. I could eat an entire stack of that stuff at anytime of the day. Last night I had a lot of trouble sleeping, the electricity went out quite a few times throughout the night so the fans weren't on. It's a lot tougher to sleep at night when there are no fans in 90 degrees at night. Now mix that with not feeling the best, it's just not a good combination. But it is the last day of work here, so I was hoping the day would go by kind of fast, but that was not the case at all. Besides the usual shoveling, sifting and passing cement, today we started to dig a foundation for another duplex. It was tough, really tough, and it didn't help it was the hottest day yet since we've been here. This foundation we had to dig had to be 2.5 to 3 feet deep, which doesn't sound very deep until your in this trench actually digging it. It was extremely sad to see that even after we're a foot deep into the dig, we are still digging up trash that's in the ground. There's so much trash, but it's the last of their worries, especially because the clean water they can drink there is in little bags, so these bags are just flying around everywhere. I began digging another little trench for this duplex and I was the lucky one who got to dig up a Tarantula. I don't think I have ever moved so fast or jumped so high. I dropped my shovel and was out of there. That gave everyone a good laugh, not to mention that the little Haitian kids were making fun of me and mocking me for a while after that!
For lunch today, we got a hot lunch sent out to us instead of the spicy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We had about 4 cups of rice for each individual serving with some chicken, veggies and some sauce on it. We didn't get the lunch out at the worksite until about 2 because there was a lady going into early labor at the clinic who needed to go to the hospital so everyone was helping with that. Obviously by 2 in the afternoon I was pretty hungry, and if you know me, you know how I get when I'm hungry! I shoved so much rice and chicken into my mouth so fast, and of course, I was picking out all of the vegetables. It was right after this that I decided I really didn't feel good. I don't know if it was the food I ate for lunch or if it was the glass bottles of pop we drank every night that wasn't cleaned right or enough, but either way, I was getting the sickness everyone else had earlier in the trip. Unfortunately for Anne, Anna and I, we got it on the last day. Right before leaving the worksite for the last time, we got a couple bags of candy a couple days earlier that we could hand out to all the kids. This was extremely overwhelming haha kids literally flock when they see candy. The kids were coming out from everywhere and from every corner! We would give them a couple pieces and they would run away and hide it or shove it in their pockets quick so they could have more! After returning to the compound we walked to the church store again, which was probably not the brightest idea I've ever had. I didn't eat supper and I missed Mr. Genois' talk which was something that I was really interested in because I was just so tired and needed to lay down.
